My first ever Warhammer figures

I'm only just not starting to learn how to play and paint (I've done less than 10 miniatures for Dungeons and Dragons before this), and these are my first Warhammer 40k figures (Assault Intercessors). I painted them kind of a cross between Blood Angels and Flesh Tearers, because I'm not sure which I want to play and kind of want the flexibility to play both back and forth with the same army until I make a choice (if I do). It was fun to try a lava base, and I made the chainswords a blue-gray as an accent color for fun. I also drilled out the barrels of the bolt rifles for a tiny extra bit of detail that I learned from a youtube vid, lol. Any tips you'd like to pass on, I'd love to hear them! Primed: Black Base: Dry Brushed Dark reddish brown Layer: Dry brushed dark red Highlights: Red (both wet and dry brush) Base: various attempts with red/orange/yellow paints, some with and without either or both of watered-down PVA glue or matt varnish, followed by a healthy amount of Martian Ironearth texture, and some with or without a heat gun to speed up the process (or just let it sit for many hours at room temp).
