Lesser demon sergeant

A bunch of first's on this one, my first reaper mini, first attempt at gold NNM, first self sculpted resin cast base and first go at painting lava. I love the look of this mini and had high hopes for it, but it proved much harder to paint than I was expecting, overall though I'm happy with the result. I would usually use purple and orange to shade and highlight red, but I wanted something of a more "natural" colour for the flesh, so I just used black ink mixed with red to shade, which gives a reddish brown colour. The sword and dagger were painted to be glowing white hot like lava. I'm still struggling to get the hang of NNM, but I was reasonably happy with it. The boots were painted using white highlights after a thread in the fora discussing how to paint shiny PVC and leather, it proved rather hard and I'm not convinced such harsh highlights work very well at such a small scale. The base was so I could have a practice at mould making and casting, the original was sculpted out of spackle and a mould made out of RTV silicone rubber, resin was used to cast the base from this. Overall it was fun to do so much experimenting, hope you like it.

Maybe I'm biased by my love of fire/lava themes, but that is gorgeous. The white hot blade looks is wonderful, as is the base. Now I'm gonna go find a demon to try that out on :)

WOW! Trevor, I apologize for not seeing this before now. You really have done an outstanding job. The red is incredible, as are the fire effects. I love the way the purple plays off of the gold. My only little quibble would be that the horns seem kind of zebra-like, and its just a tad distracting. But thats only minor, this thing ROCKS!

I bought this mini lately, too, and you managed an excellent paintjob on her! Nicely fierce and straight from hell - the only critique I have is the purple: I think something bone-colored would have fit better. :)
