Eldar Guardian (New Plastics)
I've always liked the Eldar miniatures from Citadel. And I figured that one day I would get around to painting some up. Though since I'm more skirmish and scenario oriented then obsessed with building a 'super army' to beat all my friends, I never really got around to it. I just wanted to buy about 20 guardians, a couple heavy weapons on grav platforms , and maybe a few low ranking heroes. Just enough to be the bad guys in a little skirmish game. Maybe they would be raiding an isolated imperial world or perhaps they would be eldar settlers competing with human settlers on some new world. Well, I never got around to buying or painting that force and before I knew it they'd phased out the old guardians for these new hi-tech looking ones. I first I didn't like them that much. I thought that they looked to hi-tech for the generally non-combative eldar settlers I was after. But since that is all that is now available I picked them up. And after painting one I have to say that I like them a lot more. They go together quite well and they have a very large range of possible poses. I chose the bright yellow and blue paint scheme because it seems very Eldar like and because I have new philosophy about choosing color schemes. After reading a White Dwarf article a while back I decide to adopt some of the suggestions they gave. And the primary point that this article (I don't know what issue it was in) was that you should always strive to make your miniatures BOLD and BRIGHT. That makes them stand out on the table and really look like something is there. I've seen to many armies that just look like black shapes or dark blobs from a few feet away. You want to stay way from that! Just because you can see all the details on your miniature when it's in your hand doesn't mean that it will look good far away!
