Sergeant Lorenzo (Spacehulk Terminator)

Slowly working my way through the squads, this is my fourth Blood Angel, and first helmet-less figure. I painted four test heads tovpractice for the face, and regrettably this isn't as good as any of them! As with the whole game set, I am trying to depart from the standard colour scheme somewhat. Your comments and critiques are most welcome folks.

Well done I want you to start practicing your 2 brush blending go on my w I p I'll explain how I do it but what also you might ve done is anytime there are lines weather scratches or edge highlighting the trick is str8 and thin the thinner (tighter) the better.you have great brush control so it should be no problem for you....I have another thing for you pick up the book by Betty Edwards called color theory by Betty EDWARDS all my students on here have benefitted from it the idea is not just shading reds with dark reds etc it's shading a color with its complement and then highlighting with that colors analogous colors...use or print out the 12 colol color wheel and keep it on your desk now the trick to an aesthetically pleasing miniature is tone variation (more colors introduced is more pleasing to the eye) so eg shade red with green (reds compliment) and when highlighting use analogous colors (these are colors adjacent to the color your using on the color wheel) eg orange ,yellow orange, orange yellow,yellow..these are rules of thumb every miniature painter and color artist should use because the colors you pick are just as if not more important than technique..as for two brush blending I would've never believed it but just as a carpenter uses certain rules for certain tasks so I use Windsor and newton for detail work...but for 2 brush blending I found synthetics that are amazing the paint actually smoothes out the colrs at the edge...it's true it goes right where I want it.so Raphael Kaerell synthetic sizes 2 and 3 ...now you could use w and n for blending but blending is done alot by all us top artists so I dint feel like spending 20.00 on each brush if I'm going to kill it quickly so this is where the Raphael's come in...please matt we need to get you to listen I've been doing this awhile and I have 2 golden demon statuette and an honorable mention (4th place) certificate and recently appeared in Warhammer visions and white dwarf and am a steady contributor to white dwarf magazine through dan harden white dwarfs editor...if you do what I'm advising you'll be painting to standards you once thought were not possible..any questions feel free bud check out my w I p from the beginning you'll find loads of info on how I went from one thing to now.good luck bud, otherwise kick ass job on capt lorenzo!!
