The Mirror In The Mirror
Since I scribbled sketches for a freehand on the backside of my Papa Noigul's Carnival Diorama, I wanted to build this big obese figure. See here: www.coolminiornot.com/354012 Early on I was sure that the miniature would not just be a puppet player playing. It had to be something other than telling a story (which I did not). After the Scale Model Challenge I started to build it with the goal to take it to the Monte San Savino Show. Luckily I finished it in time. It was there in my display: Supercreation Master, which got bronze. The hardest part was to build in the music box and all the gear-wheels. Most of them are spinning while the music plays. The fact that the diorama moves the gears is actually important for the meaning of the whole piece. For this I had to play the song maybe 200 times until everything worked. For better sound I also build a little box for the miniature to stand on. Every part of this piece is scratch build besides the two marionettes, which are from freebooter miniatures. As always I used no greenstuff but some rough air-drying clay to make the puppet master. Details on his skin were then made with putty from Vallejo. The whole framework is made of wood stripes. The hat looked to me a little too boring and indistinguishable from the skin so I made a hatband that looked like that from the Mad Hatter from the live action Alice in Wonderland. Also considering the straws of hay on his head (which are a symbol for madness) it does the theme and meaning of the whole piece justice and gives a nod to the nonsensical world of Alice's Wonderland. I will make a video of the mechanism and link it to more pictures on puttyandpaint in the near future. Comments are always welcome. I accept commissions.
