Boyzies Fusiliers

These are my new recruits to my Griffin warband. Would love some feedback on how to improve and some ideas of how to finish the bases. As you can see iwas just going to do sand and grit but I think these are my best mini's so far so I would like to do something different. Thankyou

Nicely painted. Their gray epaulettes seem like a weak point to me.. perhaps I'm wanting more red-gray contrast, since the bottom of the figure has much stronger contrast. The sand is a good colour (although perhaps a tinge of red would balance the red vertically) but it seems to have that translucent quality of unpainted sand. Maybe a reddish-brown wash to pick out the granules?
