MV Forged Hope: H2-GO
This was my entry to the Massive Voodoo Forged Hope contest. Here is some background information: Ideas: “The First One” created by Antonio Fernández from H&V Miniatures and painted by Roman from MV shows the first robotic creation by man on a post apocalyptic world. The First One looks like an explorer of a harsh and unforgiving desert, primitively armed and armoured, despite his own technological advancement. The humans in this world therefore must have limited resources, but a great deal of knowledge and experience with tinkering. Able to fashion a walking robot that is able to explore independently and relay information back to the humans is no small feat and they must have access to some computer and welding equipment for these creations to appear. The lack of projectile weapons may suggest that the humans are unable to create these yet, maybe having some weapons themselves, but not willing or unable to give them to robots at this stage. Perhaps for the rarity, ethical reasons or simply the fear of them being lost out in the field and falling into the wrong hands. Either way, the robots that need to follow The First One should have means of self defence should they risk being in the field at night with “Shadows” stalking the land. Regardless of what the humans are able to equip the robots with, I feel that they would have a deep connection with their robotic creations. For these are part of their lifeblood, without the robots the vast areas of land could not be fully explored and mapped. This dependence would create an almost primal celebration of the creation and working activities of the robots. The tasks in which robots could help the humans in this post apocalyptic world could be many and varied; from gathering resources, scavenging, exploration and mapping, defence, building and of course, creating more of their own kin. My idea is to create the image of this deep connection and reliance on robots for the survival and thus progress of the humans who remain on this desolate world. Surely the most celebrated and important robot for the existence of humans is one that can locate food and water. My first idea was of a robot who collected plants from the desert, or perhaps soil for which they could be grown in. I notice lots of cacti in the images created so far, there maybe some way to process these into food and water, but this could be time consuming and expensive on resources. My light bulb moment is for a robot to explore, locate and drill for water so that a constant supply of the “Liquid Gold” can be secured for the humans to thrive on their desert home world. The final creation: You see the human's latest creation "H2-GO" searching and now finding a source of water! He has rolled the barrels and wheeled the pump far across the desert from the human settlement, now he turns the handle to drill through the rock so water can be pumped to the surface. However, H2-GO cannot see the shadows that lurk in the caverns...
