MR-15 Rest-Q Ambulance - Gobots - Machine Men
Back in the 80's there was a line of transforming toys competing with the Transformers. They were called Gobots. In Australia, they were named Machine Men. Gobots were smaller, cheaper, etc, transforming vehicles compared with Transformers. In Australia, they came up with a novel way to earn more dollars - take some of the 'Machine Men' figures, and recast them in other colours. This figure was a 'delivery van' version of an ambulance Gobot, MR-15. It even has the MR-15 manufacturing stamp on its leg, straight from the ambulance mold, and the sirens on the roof were simply painted over with blue paint. Mine had long since mostly rubbed off, revealing the sirens beneath the paint. I'd been searching the net for ages, trying to identify my 'blue transforming delivery van' before I discovered it was really a reprint of an ambulance. So I thought, I'd try out painting a toy, and repaint the blue vehicle into a transforming Ambulance :) I liked how it turned out, and it's inspired me to collect cheap Transformers off the internet, and give them miniatures style paint jobs. There's often some good sculpt detail in these cheap garishly coloured toys.
