Maid of the Sea, Mermaid

I painted this figure about 14 years ago. It was the first time I tried painting with oil paints. I knew this guy at a hobby store who painted some fantastic stuff with oil paints. I was so impressed by his stuff that I knew I had to give it a try. He recommended a Liquitex Oil Color sampler which contained 12 tubes of basic colors. I actually still have it and still use it. I did have a disaster which I'll never forget. When I sprayed a flat coat on the finished figure, I ended up with this with this crystallized white stuff all over the figure which wouldn't come off. I had to repaint almost the entire figure.

Nice, very nice and I'm not just talking about her nipples either. I should give you a ten just for your ordeal alone but I think it would benefit with some strategic use of clear gloss or floor wax works good too. It's nice to see that I'm not the only one still using oils. And let that be a lesson to everyone always test your flat-coat on a scrap first as it eventually goes bad.

Damn, she looks pretty! Great paintjob. I'll probably never get the clue how to paint this good with oil colors.

This turned out really nice. I've had the same problem with spray varnish a couple of times as well...mostly when it's humid. By the way, what scale is this and who makes/made it?
