Thanks Martin Rohmann for this story about a guard and a flower. The Gurd in the story is no Prussia but the Story is great. This story is said to have actually goes on there! It is based on a report of Bismarck from his ambassador-time (1859-1862) in the Russian capital of St. Petersburg: One day Bismarck walked through one of the many parks in St. Petersburg and met with the equally walking Tsar Alexander II (1818-1881). As they walked through the park and talking, Bismarck noticed a guard in the park, situated at a point where it was nothing special to see. He asked the Tsar, why there stood a guard, but he could give him no answer to it. Some time later they met again during a walk through St. Petersburg and the Tsar began to tell. He would etc first with the soldiers, then with his supervisor, then with the company commander, then with the regimental commander but entertained no one could say why there is a guard in the park. No one knew who had granted the command. After a long search, the Tsar could find the solution. 100 years ago the Empress Catherine the Great was discovered (1729-1796) during a walk at this point, the first spring flower and a guard ordered there to protect the flower. The order was passed on continuously, so that there Day in Day in, month after month, year after year, was a guard at this point. It stood in the guard command, so it was done - no matter whether meaningful or not. Bismarck then said that 100 years are but a very long time. The Tsar replied: "Sure, for Prussia, yes, but not for Russia." Regards Frank
