Finally got around to take some proper pictures of my most recent paintjob. Unfortunately there has been an accident during application of the matte coat. It came out very grey and even after "saving" it with another coat of a different varnish, some of the contrast and all of the subtle shades (like the blue shadows on the straps) were gone. The picture is a bit too big and shows the slightly rough texture that came from the varnish, but I think it still looks ok and shows some of the work thas went into the blendings. Still rather happy with the overall impression, so let's smile and move on. Happy painting everyone!

I'll tell you what you can do.. When dealing with photography of masterful paintjobs even the eavy metal team will tell you we never coat models before taking pics. Even if you get a bad batch or f varnish or not! Take all pics first. In my gallery there are none yes none of the models have been varnished so I get the true recording of pigment nuances and subtlety of placement . Take all your Otis first then tread lightly into. The realm of figure coating varnish for play. I read in an article of white dwarf a very old one that these guys show no models (yes even all the grand ol monthly battle report armies they show ) no models I repeat are varnished in any way.

Thanks, mate! The grays were in fact intentional, they are only missing a bit of contrasting hues in the shadows. It looked much worse before the last coat of varnish that remedied the grainy chalky first layer for the most part. I just could have done without the adventure of the whole varnish mishap though.

Well, you were lucky because I love this "very gray" result. Anyway, to avoid surprises, I never use varnishes.
