Wow, that’s some really bad scoring can anyone suggest what is so bad with this? I’m aware that I’m a long way from being the most talented painter in the world, I am learning and improving though. I actually though some of the blending on the skin and the sword on this was reasonably good, not up there with the best but better than it seems to be scoring, I’m also aware that the metallic’s need a lot of work which was going to be my next area to work on my next mini but now I think I need to fix whatever is wrong with this.

Both Wilj and Gepzo are giving good advice (although I suspect that the Devlin Mud wash may not be THE solution to all your problems) Unfortunatly you've chosen a difficult model on which to work. Kingdom Deaths' wealth of detail means that there is a lot of areas where ANY faults are magnified more than say a plain cloth covered figure. Personally I'd follow the suggestion to make yourself know in the forums (Painting and Conversions) where a lot of good advice will be provided. Don't be discouraged everyone starts somewhere and the learning curve for painting can be helped with good advice, encouragement and a sense of humour. Very few model painters start off with Leonardo da Vinci talents and most of us have had to learn that Yes we've made a right mess of XYZ figure before we got a really 'shiney' one.

Thanks Gepzo and Wilj, As I said I know I'm no expert on painting, but at the time I commented I was down at 1.2 rating which I thought was very harsh. I'll take on board the fuzzy photo, still getting the hang of the new camera which probably didn't help, and I know that my shaky hand can hurt a little. I actually did blend the purple but it hasn't come out too well, probably due to the fuzzy picture. Anyway, a 3 is a much more respectable score and, by what else is on here, is about where I thought I should be at the moment.

Use a wash. A light (or heavy) devlin mud will fix all of your problems. The photo is fuzzy. People tend to come come to the (stupid) assumption that the fuzzy bits are screwed up (this has happened to me). The base looks interesting but perhaps you should consider painting it brown over the black parts, also; cover the top of the base in sand before adding other stuff. I can see your blending and highlighting and it's actually pretty good. I hope that I helped.
