You're right, it's ammo loading hatch http://www.militaryfactory.com/armor/imgs/m4-sherman_3.jpg This is cast turret so they come in different shapes

looks great, but WTF is that hatch on the left side of the turret for? is it there so you can pass the ammo easier into the turret? honestly, ive NEVER seen this on a sherman. please enlighten me! :)
