Warhammer 40K Chaos Lord Abaddon the Despoiler

I just finished this model for a client, just in time for the closing days of the Eye of Terror campaign. I really worked the blending on this model, as well as sweated the details. I was limited somewhat by the background fluff of the character (his armour is supposed to be with brass accents). I decided to highlight the sword's blade from within instead of up to the edges, to better reflect the fact that it contains a bound daemon. Instead of going non-metallic metallic, I decided to blend various shades of metallic paints in order to get a more realistic effect that catches the room's own light. Abaddon's lightning claw fist was painted in a cracked pattern, with each facet highlighted individually, much like mosaic tiles. The armour was painted a dark grey rather than black, highlighted up some more, and then I worked in some ornate swirls from head to toe (see the close-ups for a better look). The helmets on the base are painted in the colours of all the loyalist founding chapters (and yes, that's a tiny hand painted on the forehead of one of the black helmets, to represent the Iron Hands chapter). I finished them off with a bit of weathering (smudged dirt, chipped paint, moss in the recesses, etc.). All in all, I'm really pleased with how it turned out, and look forward to reading what you guys think. I'll be shipping this bad boy off to the client soon, and I'm sure he'll be seeing some action on the gaming table very shortly.

Thanks for the comments guys... yeah, Abaddon's "an oldie but a goodie". The power claw HAD to be painted differently, in my opinion, just because it's supposed to be ripped from Horus' dead body, so I didn't want it to match the rest of Abaddon's armour. As for the last helmet at his feet, I had one too many helmets on his base for all the original loyalist chapters, so I decided to make the extra one a Grey Knights helmet... they were founded after the Horus heresy, but since they didn't come from one of the founding marine legions, I guess they could be considered a "founding" chapter. As you can see, I'm a bit TOO obsessive compulsive about the game background. :)

on the other side (he has another foot, y'know...) the helmet near the foot could be camo-grey-greenish, so it could be a raptors chapter marine's one...
