Necron Triarch Lychguard with Hyperphase Sword & Dispersion Shield

With the new release and new source book, comes a new look I developed departing from the typical box art. While giving a nod to the old style silver and gold metallics, these Lychguard are painted flat black with dark silver and copper accents. The joints and pistons that see a lot of movement are silver as well as the armor on the hips and shoulders. The dispersion Shield and Hyperphase Sword have copper accents (a great conductive metal!) and all five miniatures are painted with blue OSL (Object Source Lighting). Another new feature are the faces, with new troops comes new ideas and tactics. Instead of the flat white faces, the Necron's have painted theirs a color similar to bone. The eyes are glowing red (also painted with the OSL technique) but the Necrons decided to add a bit of a blood effect - not much - just enough to try to freak out the humans they encounter. A bit of simple but effective psychological warfare. Of course, paint gets dinged up along the way, so there are touches of battle damage and marks to the face. Those I painted intentionally. One even has a slightly damaged eye lens. It's not much, because they are still a new unit but there are a couple of dings here and there just to add to the menacing feel. The bases have my trademark gemstone. Each one is a genuine deep red Rhodolite Garnet. They appear dark but in bright enough light they gleam blood red. Since this is an auction piece, I only added sand and painted the bases a neutral color so the winning bidder may add any features or effects they need to match their current army.

I think these are very nice, atmospheric minis. I'm giving them a 7 because they're a good bit above tabletop quality, but to get an 8 they could do with some smoother transitions, and some highlights to the black. The metallics are very effective, though, and the colour choices are good, too. :)
