Balrog, AKA The Greater Demon Prince

The Balrog, AKA The Greater Demon Prince commission. It's the Balrog miniature from the GW line, I've converted it for use as the Greater Demon Prince. After building it, I start converting it by cutting down/away the portions I would sculpt over or onto. I then built up the details required as per the clients' requests. Focusing on the two "Chaos Brands", the loin cloth with chain, and the flames at the feet, I used "Green Stuff" and Vallejo's "Plastic Putty". I was actually surprised by how much gap filling this miniature required. I used a combination of the GW, Privateer P3, Vallejo Model & Games paints on this model. I used a size 1 Vallejo RK 25 Sable brush and painted it using a very thin layering technique which seems to work very well for blending. The loin cloth is supped to be an Ultramarine Banner. Along the back and down the torso I used several different shades of black and gray to give more depth. His skin was painted to look dark and dry like charcoal. Thus I didn't want any part of it to be shinny. It won first place in the Fantasy Monster Category of the MiniWarGaming Platinum Brush Contest. It was fun and I learned a great deal building and painting this monster. I'm keenly aware that there are many areas for me to improve upon and I hope to receive some constructive criticism and advice but please remember it was a commission and I had very tight limitations and constraints. Thanks and Stay Frosty.

Yes, I did sculpt the flames around the feet. The flames along it's back and those of the sword are part of the model but I to repaired the flames on it's back because of gaps between the flame and the body. I used "Green stuff" for the flames and Vallejo's "Plastic Putty" along it's back. I'll try to post a new thread on the forum with as many photos of it as I have. Thanks all for your comments.
