The Emperor's Champion

This mini was for a Black Templar's army I had planned but never got much farther then the planning stage. (1 squad and the Champ here) The idea was to have each mini based in a different environment, with the mini weathered in a manner to look like he was in the environment depicted. The Emperor's Champion was inspired by Branagh's Henry V Agincourt Action sequence. I wanted to try and capture the feel of armor that was wet with rain and covered in mud, as though he had been knocked down repeatedly and kept getting back up. If you do not like it, please explain why, so as to improve future minis

He took a lot longer to dry, and the mud was a bit frustrating at times, because a piece would come loose or the wet effect would smear the mud the wrong way. I basically wanted to apply the same techniques I use on tanks with powered armor (which is basically a walking one man tank) We have a whole lot of minis around here loaded with NMM and fancy highlighting, etc, but to me, they don't look very realistic. For this one, I actually tried to find a way to simulate water running down the sword pommel on toothpicks (without much luck) to try and really hammer the sort of environment he was fighting in. It was fun, though a bit frustrating. If I ever get money again, I'll do the squad, since I set them up so that was was in a different environment (blizzard, jungle, desert, temperate forest, etc) but that's sort of on the back burner. I didn't want to auction this one off, but I need to keep my apartment.

I love it! I thought it was too much at first, but the more I look at it the more I like it. It is the first mini in a while I have stared at for a while and really get into the scenario. I would like to see the others in different environments. Was it fun or was it harder work than expected?
