GW Starter Box Archer

My first miniature is an archer from the GW starter box. I learned a good deal from him, namely: thin the paints!

I hate it when minis are given anything below a 5. I admit its not the greatest mini, but its definately tabletop quality. First off, its a pretty "clean" model, the eyes especially were nicely executed for the mini. On the other hand, the base needs A LOT of work, the yellow could use a few more coats, and overall, any amounts of blending would improve it. Another thing, the boots should have been highlighted instead of drybrushed and the pants have horrible transitions between colors. Keep Painting, it only gets better from here. Have fun!

The ubiquitous Bretonnian archer. I think I had these lying around my house before I ever got into Warhammer. They appear under sofa cushions. These guys are very hard to do well because the sculpt is so bad. The way the arrow heads are sculpted is a joke. You are right that you need to thin down the paints, but some black lining would also do wonders for this mini. Just a thin black line where two colors come into contact, like the face and the hood. Also, slap some flock on there for an additional half point.
