Brediana Darkeyes - Elf Ranger

NOTE: You may need to hit "Magnifiy." The way the site scales the image makes it look much more blurry than the photo actually is! This is the first "Fantasy" setting model I've done in a while, so the style was quite different than the dark, gritty, dirty dystopian Sci-Fi style of 40k that I'm used to. I decided to go with a warm color autumn theme, as the miniature world is already rife with leafy green Elves. This model includes a bit of "natural" basing, but is primarily an exercise in blending, layering, and a (mostly successful) experiment in using NMM. Learning and using to paint NMM was challenging and I had at least a few failures before eventually getting something I was happy with. The gold armor became fairly easy after a bit of trial and error, although was tricky to make smooth on larger plates and consistent on the tiny inner scales. The sword blade was painted with SE-NMM and was the most challenging part of the model. It comes off reasonably well here on a 2-D photograph, but is unfortunately less convincing with the physical 3-D model in person. This is partially due to weakness in my own technique (smoother and more gradual blending to less intense hues would lessen this), but partially due to the effect itself being an illusion. I guess I should also mention, this is my first experiment with using photo editing software for miniature photos. I didn't do any direct touch-ups to the paint work itself (that would be cheating ), but I *did* apply lots of filters for contrast, saturation, sharpness, etc. Most of this was to correct for my distinct lack of photography abilities. A friend's $800 camera wasn't able to save me from lousy, out of focus, yellow-tinted, dim, washed-out pictures, so Paint Shop Pro had to step in and save the day. The program is very easy to use and a joy to edit a large set of photos with. I would say I got the pictures to look as close to "ideal lighting" (indirect, ambient natural sunlight in a bright white room) as I could. Not bad, considering I took the pictures at night in a room dimly lit with an incandescent bulb. At any rate, here she is. Let me know what you think! Praise and criticism are equally appreciated.
