Ghost Miniatures Rangers #4

The Tunics were all painted first with a basecoat of Armory Brown. Then I used GW Scorched Brown and did everything but the deepest recesses. To the Scorched Brown, to about a 25:75 ratio, I added a bit of Bleached Bone for the first set of highlights. Then the final highlight was more Bleached Bone to that mix for a 50:50 ratio. This was just the outer edgings and highest points on the cloth – i.e., those areas that would either receive the most light and or the most wear & tear. The bows were painted with a basecoat of Scorched Brown followed by a thin 50:50 mix of Scorched and Vermin Brown followed by Vermin on it’s own. In general, GW paints are condensed. You really have to thin them to get the right consistency out of them. But when they are thinned properly nice results seem much effortless to me. The method of painting I have attempted to illustrate in this series is called Layering – by which all blends are done on the palette instead of directly on the figure. I never use extenders or flow enhancers or anything like that – mostly because I haven’t yet seen a need for it. There’s a bunch of styles and techniques out there so use what works for you. See the other 3 pics in this series for other recipes I used on these figs. And as always, questions and comments are welcome . . .

These are very under-rated. The muted realistic tones are very well done. I especially like the shield colors and the overall feel. Nice work!
