I followed a painting guide that was in White Dwarf for 'tale of four gamers' and modified it a bit to my own taste.
Basecoat Knarloc Green, wash Badab Black (Medium thickness and not watered down), highlight with Knarloc, followed by a 60/40 mix of Knarloc and Gretchin Green (not Goblin Green!) and then glaze with Devlan Mud (very thin layer, but not watered down at all).
In practice it's a lot simpler than it sounds.
