CMON10 Contest

Lily, Witchomancer- This is my first miniature for CMON submission. I didn't know about the back story, "What's a Witchomancer?" I painted the mini while watching the "Sweeney Todd" DVD, and thought witches bake people into pies... C+C please.

Underated! I think it's because the picture is ver revealing which is a good thing if you want feedback though! :) What i think you should work with is definition and thinking a bit about different materials. First the skin on the breast is great, it shows contrast but at the same it has a translucency that is very skinlike. The face could use a bumb in contrast so that it becomes the natural point of focus. The hair needs some sharp contrasted highlights as hair is most often pretty reflective.. it will also enhance the feeling of volume. On a textured area like this I use the side of the brush with very little paint, I remove excess paint on my thumb actually. Be very light with your hand when doing the strokes. The green areas could also need some more, sharp, contrasted highlights that will define the shape of the objects. i would probably first do a more general highlight and then concentrate my highlighting on the edges facing upwards. Finally the cloth needs more contrast as well but this time softer highlights. Highlight up with a bone colour, a pale green or pale blue colour (ex. GW bleached bone, khaki, Vallejo pale bluegrey, GW rotting flesh) depending on mood. And then use a black wash if it turns out too grey. A neutral grey can be harder to work with and get smooth. hope anything helps. Sven
