I love the tiger stripes. I can see what you mean by the black. BUT, maybe it's too look charred. I get mental image of this beasty climbing out of a volcano. Maybe a little red black or dark red added to the wings will make it fit better.
I have this model ( am cleaning it up to post now) and had problems with the tail also. The tail section of this mini really bites as far as fitting is concerned. I tried to fix it by using green stuff to build a leather bacd around his tail at the joint.
As far as the painting is concerned, back off of the black on the armatures of the wings. There is alot of details which can be brought out on the bone joints and tips of the wings on this model.
Otherwise, great job!
Yes, the wings are too black and don't fit in with the rest of the mini. Also, a shoddy job where the tail connects to the body.
Cool scheme though, well done.
