LOTR Twilight Ringwraith
This is one of the LOTR minis produced by Games Workshop. I painted him up for GW's LOTR painting contest, but didn't want to stick to the movie colors because it would have been all one shade of ghostly blue. (That was my original idea, until I realized how boring the mini would have ended up.) I painted the "skin tones" with a very pale flesh tone and then washed it with watered down purple paint. His robes were done by painting the base colors and then adding a dab of white paint to each consecutive layer. The purple sleeves were actually washed with diluted purple paint. Once I had gotten the robes to where I was happy with them, I applied a wash of watered down dark brown paint, adding a couple of additional layers at the bottom of his robes. The mini really doesn't have much of a mouth, so I had to wing it there. Since he's not really supposed to be alive, I painted his eyes black. They are just tiny slits on his face anyway, and I thought whites/pupils would ruin the "undead" look. I don't know if the wraiths are supposed to have eyebrows, but I gave him some for character. Overall, I'm really happy with his face. His sword and crown started as black with lightly brushed metallics. His sword doesn't show very well in this pic, but it's darker near the hilt and lighter at the point of the blade. I put most of the highlights near the point, on the top edge of the blade. I tried to paint his base in the "unreal" blue tones you get at night, keeping in mind he's really more of an apparition. Anyway, I'm happy with him. Let me know what you think.
