Leopardskin Chief
I’m not entirely happy with my dark skin paints, so I downloaded some pictures to use as inspiration in mixing my own colours. The skin in one of the pictures had a purplish cast, which was probably due to the lighting for the photograph, but I liked it and thought I’d experiment with it, and this was the result. The skin has been painted as a fairly cool colour, with the other elements on the mini painted in warm colours. The crevices in the ground use a similar colour to the skin. The dirt on the feet and some of the dustiness of the ground was achieved by applying ground up pastels to the piece. I painted this figure to enter in Wyrd Games’ Total Testosterone contest. I really like the musculature on this guy, the legs in particular. So even though he wasn’t classic testosterone, I thought he was more than masculine enough to submit. I was quite pleased that he won co-Third place in the Alternative category. These are different photos to the ones I entered in the contest, as I’ve been working to try to get truer colours in my pictures. I did another experiment with a warmer dark skin tone that I’ve also posted.
