Almaran the Gold
This is my first mini back from a long hiatus, but there should be many more to come. I originally planned to eBay this bad boy, but when I took him over to Reaper to photo him Ron (their art director) liked it so much they bought it outright. It's always a good feeling to hear the art director of a company say, "That's exactly how I envisioned him!" The photos aren't the best; I was trying out a pre-printed gradient, and I think the blue was a mistake with this fig. I'll see if I can get some more photos later; this mini will be at Reaper's booth at GenCon next week for those of you going, so you can see it there and tell just how badly I botched the photo. There were a ton of firsts on him for me; I'd never used OSL before (the sword blade on the shield and hilt of the actual sword), I hadn't used a wet palette extensively, and I have never painted a flaming magical sword before. I'm pretty sure I have five solid ways to not paint a magic sword at this point, I'll let you know if I figure out how to actually do it. The whites are very washed out in this pic, but the armor gleams on the high end like it's supposed to in real life. It's a definite departure from my usual NMM style, and I spent way too long going back and forth on it, but at least it's somewhat smooth. Anyhow, I hope you like it, and comments and criticisms are welcome.
