A Hottie Back Home

My entry for round Two of WYRD's Iron Painter V http://wyrd-games.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=2193 ++++++ 3 Months of Basic Training. 9 Months in transit through the warp. 4 Weeks in-system travel, waiting to be deployed on some Emperor-forsaken backwater planet. And an average lifespan of fifteen minutes... You still spend the whole time thinking about that Hottie back home, and the things she wanted to do with you! After cleansing heretic scum with holy fire, a stolen glance at the photo she gave you lifts your spirits. She almost comes alive as you remember the day you took the photo; her perfume as she came close, that melodic giggle as she stole your pen and the way she formed her letters as she wrote that line, "Light my fire xxx". A truly warming memory of that Hottie back home. How you wish you could go back and really light her fire! +++ I really wanted to play with the actual space of the entry this time, with the lines of sight and stuff. In hindsight the interweb is prolly not the best place for that on account of the 2D non-handling nature! But I had a lot of fun nutting this one out and it is pleasing to handle and look at. The empty 'frame' he is holding lines up with the vignette of the Hotty when you get about 5-8mm from it... and before anyone yells at me, YES the topmost image of the 'photo' is a composite of the in-focus 'frame' and the in-focus girl. Then it was altered to look more like an old photograph. The unaltered image is in the bottom right. So this Guardsman looks longingly at a photo of his Hottie back home and she comes to life with the help of his memories. I didn't just want to do a tiny freehand photo because I thought it would be boring, also the hand-written message at that tiny scale would have been impossibly to do. I also did some subtle stuff like had unlit candles next to the Hottie, along with red eye shadow, lipstick and swimwear. This contrasted with the Guardsman who was very green but has the red flame on his flamer, along with a petrol can! And yes, I know pilot lights are generally blue-flame but it didn't tie in as well and people don't connect 'blue' with fire... so I took some "artistic License" and went with red. Apologies for the cruddy photos this time I was rushed! This Eldar army I'm painting really is taxing my time... and the tournament is very close!

I like it, and I couldn't care less if real pilot lights are blue ;-) Nicely done realisation of a very good idea!
