Ilyad's Taurg minotaur - sculpted by Allan C.

So after a year to track down this model, finally got it from a small store in france. So this is my first work, since attending a painting class by Vincent Hudon. I completed this back in september but just got around to photographing it now. It pays hommage to (but no where close to as good results) a similar cool colour themed Taurg by MatthiueL. It uses something I have to work on now to get better, that Vincent taught - glaze techniques. Massive amounts of super thin glazes to slowly tint the model as needed. The skin was basecoated (with 4 thin basecoat layers) with a mix of snakebite and space wolf grey. Then some added snakebite to bring up the brown, to the darker areas. Then added blues and purples. Turqouise and blue/purple inks and black were used throughout the model after the basecoat. The 2 crystals are from...a company that I can't remember the name of (I have the link at home). THe base I made via apoxysculpt. I am very happy with the glazed blends on the leg muscles and the axe. Errors: Some known issues that I realized after I decided to stop work on it... 1) the freehand tattoo on teh back, unlike the ones on the leg/arm is just too rough/thick. I should hvae removed it and started over 2) there are small drops of blue on the lighter areas of the muscles, from paiting other areas and not noticing the drops sprinkling all over :( 3) the colours, I notice now, aren't deep enough to see. Only on parts of the legs is is visible the change to purple. Most of the model, I should have done more deeper glazes. I may go back over it during the holidays and add some more depth to the muscles, since I like this model so much. Regards, Sanjay

I have to agree with what has been said by the others. Overall, it's a nice piece, but the skin could use more contrast. The metals work for me and I can't really fault it ;). I'm not a big fan of the base. It tends to overflow the square base without reason (IMHO), but the colors on it are fitting. In general, I can see that you've improved a lot through this piece (smoothness of the blends, variations in colors, ...). For your futur pices, I think you should concentrate on placing your shadows to accentuate the atmosphere of the piece.

Great Work Sanjay!! :) I think the colours and subtle touches are really well done and the metals are top notch! :) However you need do a bit more extreme highlighting and shading, it seems like it misses the last bit of shading and last bit of highlighting. And the other point is to fade the freehand into the skin more it stands out far too much. I'm not entirely sure of it's design either.. seem a bit too crude for such a delicate model. But you are really improving! Well done! Sven

I love it ! only the tatoos dont fit well i guess...a bit brown rust or blood on the axe would be great but i think the mini gets along very well without it! CONGRATS very nice paintjob !!!
