Catherine O'Mannon

I painted this one around Christmas, hence my choice of colors. The hawk was painted to resemble a redtail. While I was able to get the shading to look decent on the dress, I had some trouble with it on her shawl. White isn't the easiest color to work with at times. However, I think her red hair and hazel eyes look pretty good. Her lips may be a little too pink tho... Comments?

Hard to tell about the hawk, but it's a great start---perhaps edging more of the feathers would bring out the colors better. I really like the clothing colors, but with the white, you could either do the grey wash as has been suggested, or use the white as the highlight and shade down with greys or browns. Even pale teals might work given the color of the dress itself. This was a fun one to see---oh, and I think you're right about the lips---a bit too pink.

Figure looks good. Bird Looks great! Try a light cool grey wash on the shawl and highlight it back with pure white. You're right, white can be difficult. Keep up the good work!
