Hey
Finished this 1/144 scale model today. Its a tiger 1 with afrika korps paint scheme.
The weathering have been done with tamiya pigments but I want MIG pigments since they are a lot better. I havent found them in sweden though :(
Actually, many field markings were done by hand by crews and so wouldn't be particularly straight or even since stencils may not be available or convenient. If this is intended, I do not believe models should be marked down. As to stencils, masks can be very effectively used with brush paints as well. Transfers can also be useful and blended by overpainting them.
The paint is convincing, but a bit uniform in color. Since the tank is apparently weathered, some exposed metal on hinges, points of contact, etc. would not have gone astray. (This can be easily done with a little paint and a graphite pencil to "chip" areas)
Looks excellent. Especially for such a small mini! :) The freehand is nice for the scale, but actually think that you could have tried using transfers and painted colour over them as it's so hard to get that sharp feel the markings should have. The best option of course is to use an airbrush and cut out patterns. But I'm not sure how easy that is on such a small tank. 6.5 Sven
