Techmarine Photo - MK3

This photo was edited together by Automaton... it's better than the other two by a fair way. I attempted a whole bunch of stuff with this model... probably too much in hindsight! = I wanted a full-on base with lots of rust and oxidisation, which I hadn't tried much before this model. I ended up doing so many different glazes... washes... JUICES... Confused that I can't remember! Browns, black, silvers, brown again, silver again... on and on! Anyway, I think some of the verdigris and some of the rust is well-controlled and some of it doesn't look as controlled - and this is probably true as I did rush it a little near the end. = I also wanted to make sure there was some freehand and I spent ages agonising about the chapter symbol... in the end this is another thing that doesn't look as controlled as I would like - the flame looks good but the star is a little infirm. = I am pleased with the subtle lighting effect on the plasma gun (another feature I was just getting the hang of) and the heat-tarnish on the flamer. I also was pleased with the armour - Instead of conventional deep reds and bright reds of techmarines, I used earthy mixes of black & scab red and terracotta, fortress grey and many washes of black. = Finally it was also my first attempt at nicks and scratches that Arjay and Automaton do so well... it's ok - doesn't have the depth and realism that I could have done if I'd not rushed it.

Really excellent work ben - I was very impressed by this when I saw it at GD. You certainly deserved your victory - it was definately the best miniature in the whole staff competition! And that base is fantastic haha, I love it.
