Squat Old vs New Paintjob Comparison

Randomly took a pic of an old squat I had on my painted mini shelf and posted it yesterday. This gave me the urge to see how well I could paint one of these guys now. Thankfully I had a few primed and unpainted squats sitting around from like 18 years ago. What we have here is a combination pic of the newer paint job vs the 18 year old one. I tried to stick to the original colour scheme (except for the blue scabbard, I just couldn't bring myself to do it).

Which pic looks flat? I hope the bottom one. The bottom one was painted almost 20 years ago. There is some simple drybrushing on the green and on the beard but that's about it. You can see that the base is just sand as well, not even painted.

I love these old sculpts even if they seem crude by todays standards. I wish I still had all my Space Marines from that era still, especially the thudd gun and crew. Nice clean paint work. You seem to have some decent shading going but the highlights seem flat but that might just be the picture I get that result in alot of my pics. Maybe try to layer up to a bit lighter shade on the highlights to make them pop more.
