Duel
I was inspired to make this after watching the second pirates of the Caribbean movie. I wanted to focus mainly on the pose of the models. The stone wall is made from a material called balsa foam, it was the first time I'd tried using it and I'd definately recommend it. Its very similar to the oasis stuff you get flower arrangements in, but a lot more dense. You can drill, saw and carve it very easily, which made creating the bricks very simple. The wooden jetty is also made from balsa foam The Empire guy didn't require too much converting. I wanted him to be hanging onto the wall very precariously, so I came up with the idea of him hanging on with his weapon. I found a suitable hammer and resculpted the hand to hold it. His left arm was also changed to one holding a pistol. Th legs and lower tunic required a little repositioning to allow him to be standing on the pipe. I expected the beastman to be a quick conversion using the plastic kit, but it took quite a while. I wanted him kneeling down to bring his eye line closer to his opponent. the problem was that all of the plastic beastman bodies and legs are one-piece and standing. I chopped the legs at the knees, hips and ankles and repositioned them. This meant that the fur on the legs had to be resculpted to cover the joins. The axe arm was also repositioned so that he was holding the axe above him rather than in front of him. I went for quite a dark colour scheme, the fact that it was only two figures allowed me to concentrate on getting the blending on all of the parts as neat as possible. This figure won a gold in the Duel category at UKGD 2006 Comments appreciated Cheers Matt Hooton
