Gandalf the grey

This was my entry in the Sydney 2002 Golden Demons. It placed first in the single Lord of the Rings category. I think I need to improve the lighting to get a better pic of him but it is still supperior to the dark little pic in the WD. It is hard to see the distinctions between the different greys on him, the warm brownish grey of the overcloak, the cooler grey of the inside robe and the blue grey of his hat, as well as the dirty grey of his beard. Apart from that I must say it isn't until you paint them that you realise what an incredible job Brian Nelson did in replicating the detail and likenesses of the actors from the film. Was nice to talk about Brian about this at Games Day as well.

Rob_Jedi? Wow. There's a name I've not seen for a while. Lovely work on the subtleties of tone. It's interesting to see how painting approaches to LOTR minis have come on in the eight years!

Nice paintjob Rob and congrats on the GD. I recently painted this mini myself and I know that it is very difficult to take a good digital pic of him, the greys all seem to merge. I agree about the sculpts, and I like the paintjob you've acheived with his face.
