About the purchase of Miniatures… In my eyes, there are two main reasons to buy a specific mini: First, it is a good buy; for example, being an unreasonably cheap bargain you just cannot ignore even if you don´t know what to do with the specific mini right away… This have been some occasions , though rarely, I have made myself guilty of the aforesaid (invariably most of these bargains tend to land in my “future projects”-box and stay there most of the time) But, of course, my major reason to buy a mini is that I have “the plan”, meaning I know exactly what to do with this purchase, be it conversion ideas, a fitting place in a unit, the start of a planned army etc, often making the price an irrelevant issue… not that I am that rich, I just tend to be ruthless to my meagre savings, reasoning art has a price and willingly sacrifice it… after all, it´s just money, isn´t it? Although my wife occasionally tries to show me the folly of my ways, I try to resist bravely, rebel that I am… But enough of that, back to the mini at hand: For this one I had not only “the plan”, no, I got that rare upgrade, namely: “THE VISION” which means a specific urge to do the mini justice in some, most special way and almost seeing it before me already! Ok. Being not a quick Painter/Converter/Sculptor , the mini had to wait in line for some other visions to be completed, but now, the time has come to honor him: Beginning his life as a Dark Age mini (if memory serves me right) I extensively added to the main frame, adorning the mini with so much magic sculpt, making it almost unrecognisable. The design inspiration derives from several sources apart from the original mini itself: A drawing of a GW Woodelf Spellsinger was a major influence as well as the “Victoria Haley” WARMACHINE-Mini (she has got those lovely flowing robes), but the main theme (the One-Winged Angel is an idea derived from Sephiroth, charismatic Archvillain from FINAL FANTASY VII, a real cool but nowadays rather nostalgic Playstation Role-Playing game as well as a brandnew, breathtaking , MEGACOOL animation movie “FFVII: Advent Children”, which I heard about only some weeks ago, only to rush off instantly to make it mine- and believe me: this is one you don´t want to miss!) was to give him this angelic touch without actually making him one. Therefore the cloak, shaped like a bird´s wing and the long strips of cloth, giving the mini a sense of direction as well as a mere hint at angelic paraphernalia (the halo, for example). I am not sure how I will tackle the paintjob, so any ideas will come in very handy! Happy Painting and Thankx beforehand for any comments you wish to commit!
