Oldblood on Carnosaur

This was my other entry at Toronto GD. 87 hours of work and the model I am most proud of so far. (although there are LOTS of errors on it with the sculpting, and some errors with the Verdigris I tried to add to the banner, and mold lines I missed :( ) Sadly, It didn't make first cut, but oh well. I needed a carnosaur for my lizardmen army anyways :) The colour scheme is based on the Australian Thorny Devil lizard. The carnosaur was cut up and to reposition it I had to resculpt the neck, part of belly and a bit of the tail. ALso, the legs had to be bulked up a bit more. I then added extra armour to the side of the neck and the 2 extra horns on the armour and the head spike. The rider is the body of the oldblood on foot, cut up and added to kroq-gar's legs on the carnosaur. The head is also from the oldblood on foot. I wanted this oldblood/carnosaur to be unique from my other one, which will be done like Kroq-Gar himself or compared to other carnosaurs people have. His shield is from saurus sprew, standard from new saurus cavalry sprue, his left hand weapon is a combination of kroq gar's real weapons, while the right hand weapon are from 2 saurus weapons, nightbringer's scythe, and new saurus cav's weapon. THe base is made from apoxysculpt. The painting for the dino and rider was done via glazing tons of layers on a bleachbone basecoat (and a wash of light brown). The metals were done with tin bitz and layers to try and hilite it (gun metal grey, chainmail, gold, burnished gold, silver) and tons of washes (black) and glazes (green, brown, my rust mix from the dreadnought), sepia ink, to shade and tint it. The standard totem turned out better than the weapons IMHO. I am most proud of the blending on the horns... a bit of a rough transition near the tips but overall, my best results of blending so far. Many thanks to: Cedric, Sebastian, Sven, EricJ, and Ritual for the help on this model and Vincent, and Jeremie for your critiques at Toronto GD 2006. One suggestion I thought didn't look as good, when I tried it in the portion that is now covered by the seat, was giving a different colour for the spine of the dinosaur...I kept it as is since the change for some reason didn't appeal to me :) Anyways, please leave comments and suggestions... Regards, Sanjay

I'd say 8.5. I really like the color scheme on this one, you achieved the Horned dragon look very well. I liked the conversion too, basically I see no apparent flaw. I would shade the teeth of the carnosaur more towards the gum though to better define the bone from pink, thus adding contrast and making it easier on the eyes. I am one to think that an excellent model is one that helps the eye of the viewer identify quickly what's going on, good contrasts and theme in colors are an asset. Great job!

I like this one much! There are parts of it that really is not only good, but excellent. What i like most about it is that we can see you testing out new things and steadily improving. The blends on the horns are indeed flawless and though not that visible in the picture, the gold banner is a real eyecatcher. I really like the marking of the carnosaur, the colors are really nice. The main thing I'd like to say something about is to define the different parts of the mini better both with choosing colours and with shading and defining details like teeth and such. It's allways a good idea with such a large model to do a balanced colorscheme with both dark and light colors to make the different parts stand out more. Great job! Sven
