Burning Blade Clan (1st Regiment)

Ok... got a new digital camera, and got a chance to go to my cousin's to take a pic of the first burning blade clan regiment I've done up. (Coincidentally the first mini's I've ever painted as well.. so let me know what you think... be brutal.. but constructive...) The flames on the blades are meant to be orcish type graffiti in reverence to their clan and clan leader (I'm working on my first conversion of him, he will have a big ole burning blade) I personally believe the bases to be really strong on these minis definately looks like real earth/grass etc... quite happy with that... Comments would be greatly appreciated as I have alot to learn... Thank You! Updated the image a bit to make it a little sharper...

Well, since these are your first mini's I'm giving you an 8 (because my first mini's were Snotlings that were painted even worse and I thought at that time I was the best painter in town - I am now ;)) Well, for a first-timer these are really good. Biggest reason why I gave you an 8 is because of the bases - a base is what makes or breaks a mini, and these are good. It might be a good idea to start practicing on different painting techniques one at a time. You can for example take an Orc and drybrush him completely, then take an Orc and blend every part, and go for using Ink washes on a 3rd Orc. You'll get a pretty good view of what techniques you like to use and what you think looks good on a mini. Also, don't be afraid to "borrow" other painter's techniques :) One tip I'd like to give you is Black Lining, basically painting a thin black line between areas of different colour to make it all look more clear. For example, between the silver and gold of the front rank Orc's helmets black lining will help the helmet look better. Try it out for yourself, if you haven't mastered handling the brush yet you can also use Black Ink. As soon as you've mastered some techniques and are willing to try new ones you'll find your mini's approve with every new model you paint. Succes, Martijn
