Agreed, table top standard. The most obvious thing you can do is to start working on highlighting and shading. In the beginning, a good way to start is to commit yourself to using three colors for every area of the mini. A base color (the main color you want the area to be) and a shad (a darker version of the base) and a highlight ( a lighter version of the base). Don't even wory about realistic light placement at first, just paint the base color on, then paint the shade in all the recessed areas and the highlight on all the raised areas. Right there you'd have a better result in the 6ish range. Give it a shot.
Come on people these really are table top standard. 3 or more colours between the lines. These are a good start, so I think you should start lookngi at using washes to create some shading on the miniatures, and using some basing materials like sand to give some texture to the base rather than straight paint on the base.
