One of my first attempts at highlighting. I'm only 16, and painted only a year, so...I think it looks ok.

Good job. Keep it up! Yes, age does dictate how good you are to a degree. How long you've been doing this is a major factor. It takes a lot of time and practice to build up your skills to the "Golden Daemon" level. You've gotten a great start though, and I encourage you to keep it up. Save miniatures like this and don't re-paint them. That way, when you look back at what you did when you first started out, you will be amazed. I believe that some keys to getting better are to stay with the hobby and keep looking at photos and articles of what people are currently doing. It will inspire you to keep going and to improve your skills. If you see new techniques that people are using and you read about how they do it, try picking that techique up! It will result in you getting better and better, step by step... Good Luck!

Only 16, that's no excuse. I'm 3 and have never painted before and I'm better then you! Sorry, couldn't resist. Don't think your age dictates how good a painter you are, your brush does. Excellent highlighting. The picture is a little dark but you've picked out the edges that would catch the light. A good job on whatever it is under his left arm. Good transition of colour on a small space. I would recommend another coat of white on the plasma pistol, another coat of green on the base, and paint the head (except for the white stripe) red. Sergeants have Red Helmets, veteran marines have white helmets, vetern sergeants have red with a white stripe. You only have to do this if you want to follow the fluff for Ultramarines. Also, your standard bearer must show a Laurel Wreath (I researched all this once for a GW entry which is actually on this site somewhere)
