I'm no expert by any means but a few ideas leap out at me. First, when you've used an ink wash you need to touch the highlights up again with paint to try and avoid that shiny finish. Also, try using a few more intermediate shades on your blending to smooth the colours out. Finally, base the minis as this makes a big difference to the overall look. Hope this helps a bit :)
