Blood Angels Standard Bearer

This miniature began life as a limited edition Ultramarines standard bearer. You could only get it by trading in 'skull' rewards - and apparently it was only available from GW Australia. I don't play 40K, but ended up with it because a Blood Bowl player wanted some and sent me skulls to redeem them here in Australia. Ultramarines are really dorky, so I puttied up his blonde dreds, gave him a bionic eye and custom backpack (crossed with a Chaos one I got free with White Dwarf #182, seeing as Blood Angel's are close to Chaos - aren't they?) then painted him up. I have no idea if you're meant to highlight Blood Angels yellow, as they seem to be highlighted white - and I have no idea about anything else. I deliberately painted the banner icon the way I did because even though I filed off the Ultramarine horseshoe, it was still a little bit visible, so I incorporated it into the design (can you see it?) Interested in people's thoughts.

Yes, my highlights are very strong. But is there anything wrong with Old School? "No school like the old school" - The Incredibles. I personally like the 2nd Ed. Period. If this looks 'too' 2nd Ed. then I'll take that as a compliment. Thanks. I pine for the 80's GW figures. Harlequins. Chaos. Ahhh. (Now I'm just showing my age and 'good old day' syndome :)

thin your paint and ease up on the highlights. The purple looks really wonky on the mini, and the edge-highlights are too thick. the banner freehand looks pretty shakey, and I don't like the brown on the bolter. The hair makes him look like a hick (can anyone say mullet?) and the whole thing is too garish, in my opinion, reminding me of something out of the 2nd ed. period.
