Shaka-Umruk updated pic and tutorial

Greetings, ok I have uploaded the new improved final version of Shaka..the little fellow first got cleaned then sprayed with color spray off white..then rechecked for missed lines then sprayed lightly once again.I cut the tab off and attached him to a pair of hemostats for easier handling.I then mixed a combination of several oil colors..sap green..red..blue..for a dark base for the skin and lightened it in striations on his skin with lots of white..wet on wet blending..the cloak was slightly different..I based it with gw vomit brown and washed it with burnt sienna and removed the oil for the highlight..the rivets as the metal around his waist were lamp black oil and white for nmm look..the skulls were ceramcoat maple sugar washed with a toning oil of raw umber and cermacoat ivory..as his eyes were so beedy I went with black lamp oil and white.his bottles were prussian blue and white..stoppers were maple sugar washed with previous toner..the hair on the cloak was lamp black with shades of blended gray/white.I attempted nmm gold on the braclets with yellow ochre cadmium yellow and white..all the larger taller weeds are from a small decorative broom ..the green are moss from the surrounding trees next to my home..very durable..some 2 years old and not brittle at all..the rock and flat water base was from sculpey..not a real rock as several have asked..the rock got a coat apple barrel country gray followed by a toning wash over all and then several coats of blended white and gray shadowing..to give the appearance of a real rock with more than one color..the water was done over the base sculpey white..prussian blue and sap green and raw umber..glossed eventually with cryla gloss varnish..the orc after several days of letting the wet on wet dry I hit him with testors dullcoat. The orc was attached using Great planes Pro CA..and zip kicker..as were all the weeds and swamp details.base was from Big Lots a Curtain rod end..I varnished with W&N alkyd burnt sienna..needed no sanding right out the packet and at 75 cents a real bargain.I am very pleased with the little fellow..if I have confused anyone please feel free to ask.as always comments very welcomed. your painting pal Mick

Great piece of work, and great explanation of how it was achieved!

Lord Humongous
Lord Humongous here. Ahh, a warm spring afternoon, a soft breeze, and an ork enjoying some quiet time in his favorite swamp...The setting is almost startling in it's realism, especially the weeds and water.

Hi mick. This is not only very nice work but it also appeals to me on a personal leval. I just entered 2 ork models in the GD following a swamp theme with very earthy colours and subdued skin tones, very similar to what you have done here. This is also one of my favorite rackham models. I didnt realise you painted with oils, Im very inpressed, using them on this scale is very brave and must require extraordinary patience. You have achieved a leval of realism and natrualism rarely seen on any model let alone a greenskin. The intergration of the figure with his enviroment is beautifully done. Now the critical bit.... I wish the photo was bigger but from what i can tell the gradation between the shadows and highlights on the skin seems a little abrupt. The fur looks great as does the leather, lovely rich brown. The face could perhaps be made more of a focal point by treating it slightly differently from the rest of the skin. maybe adding some warmer tones aroung the mouth, highlighting the teeth a little more or bringing out the eyes with some heavier highlights and shadows around the cheeks and brows. These are only suggestions, in all it is a great figure and im finding it quite hard to find anything that needs improvement. look forward to seeing more of your work
